Biotechnology Careers

There are many options for you to choose from when deciding on the right career option. And one of these options is a biotechnology career in the fields like genetics, agriculture, botany and medicine. To start a biotechnology career, it does not imply that you study only subjects related to biotechnology. There are different exciting and varied careers that you can follow with biotechnology related degrees.

One type of biotechnology career is as a biological scientist, which involves the study of animals, plants and microscopic organisms. With this knowledge, you can also pursue a career as a food and agricultural scientist, veterinarian, forensic scientist, pharmacist or general practitioner. Then there is the career option of a biomedical engineer where you form artificial body parts. You can also pursue careers as physical therapists, mechanical engineers, computer hardware engineers and surgeons with this specialization.

As clinical laboratory technologists, you can detect body fluids and tissues and check for signs of a disease. You have career options as a pathologist, chemist or as a biological or materials scientist. As forensic scientists you can provide information for criminal proceedings, and thus a job as detectives, archaeologists or anthropologists.

Medical scientists research on the causes of diseases by bacteria and virus. This helps to create medicines and vaccines that can eradicate diseases; and this knowledge provides a career as an internist, chemist, statistician and material scientist. Then there are pharmacists that distribute medicines and guide in the right medication and dosage of medicine. There are many career options here including that of anesthesiologists, practice nurses, pharmacy technicians and psychiatrists.

There are also biotechnology careers in business where you learn in developing businesses related to biotechnology and can thus work as a commercial manage or company director of an institution of research and development in biotechnology. With the increasing need of non-scientists to explain new concepts, research and discoveries in common language, there is also great scope in communication and education in biotechnology. You can work as a communications consultant, genetic counselor, freelance medical writer, community relations manager and communications manager of a biotechnology institute.

Then there is the option of working for the government as graduate public policy officer and examiner of patents. With this career option, you are in charge of making sure that the biotechnology research is done complying with government regulations and also by examining the patents scientists and research officers may submit
